Christmas Light Installation on Ward Parkway
A boulevard with a planted median, fountains and statuary, lined with some of the largest homes in Kansas City. Lighting here has to read from across four lanes of traffic.
The boulevard
Distance changes the design.
Ward Parkway runs south from the Plaza as part of Kansas City’s parks-and-boulevards system — a divided road with a landscaped center, and houses set well back from it.
Big frontages, deep setbacks
These are wide houses on deep lots, often stone or brick, with slate or tile roofs, formal entries and long approach drives. From the boulevard you are seeing the whole elevation at once from sixty or eighty yards away, so detail work at the door barely registers. The roofline and the trees carry the display.
Symmetry is the point
Most Ward Parkway houses are formally composed. Light them the same way: matched runs either side of the entry, consistent bulb spacing, one color temperature throughout, and nothing that draws the eye off-center. Warm white almost always wins on this stretch.
Trees do the heavy lifting
The corridor has enormous mature trees, in the yards and in the median. A pair of wrapped trunks flanking a drive gives a big house vertical presence that a roofline alone cannot, and it is the single most effective spend on a deep lot.
Roofs that need respect
Slate, tile and old cedar are common here and none of them tolerate a staple, a careless boot or a ladder set badly. Clip-only attachment, harnessed crews, and proper ladder standoffs are not optional on this street.
