Red Bridge is a post-war neighborhood in the far south of Kansas City, Missouri, built out along Red Bridge Road either side of the Blue River. The housing is overwhelmingly mid-century: long single-story ranches, split-levels and tri-levels on generous lots, with attached garages, low-pitch roofs and the wide picture windows of the period. Sixty-odd years on, the trees planted with those houses are now the biggest thing on the street.

That combination is close to ideal for holiday lighting. A ranch gives you one long uninterrupted roofline at a reachable height — the run is fast, the ladder work is straightforward, and the finished line is unbroken from one end of the frontage to the other. It is also completely unforgiving of sloppy spacing, because there is nothing to distract the eye. If bulbs wander, everyone on the street sees it.

The low pitch means full color works here in a way it does not everywhere. Red Bridge blocks lean family, and vivid multicolor C9s across a ranch roofline with a wrapped tree beside the drive is a genuine local look rather than a compromise. Warm white with lit entry columns is the other end of the same street. We design to the house and to what you actually want it to look like.

Two practical notes. Mature trees overhang a lot of these rooflines, so runs need clearing and checking after wind. And the Blue River parkland and Minor Park bring damp and leaf litter into gutters, which is exactly where clips loosen. That is what the all-season maintenance in the price is for.
